A double murder investigation has been launched after the deaths of two men who were found seriously injured in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called at 1am to Montague Road, Leytonstone, northeast London.

They were alerted by ambulance services, who were treating two men, both believed to be in their twenties, who had been found in a vehicle.

An air ambulance was also dispatched to the scene, but paramedics could not save them.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: 'Every effort was made to resuscitate the two men.

"Despite the best efforts they were pronounced dead at the scene."

An incident room has opened in Barking under Detective Chief Inspector Neil Attewell from the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward, and are working to inform the victims' next of kin.

A note on a bunch of flowers left at the scene said: "rip aaron, always in our hearts, miss you. From jordan & mum xxx".

Police refused to confirm reports that the men were shot, and said the cause of death was not immediately clear.

Post mortem examinations are being conducted on Saturday afternoon.
