The dramatic rescue, captured by amateur photographer David Townsend, shows fire crews helping the woman to safety from her car, which had become wedged between the pontoon and the quayside.
Crews had to secure the vehicle before the woman was removed to the dockside, the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.
They stayed on the scene for an hour while a crane was used to lift the vehicle back onto the jetty.
