Pregnant Mindy Kaling reveals the one trait she would like to pass down to her child

Mindy Kaling has decided to keep the name of her baby's father under wraps for now, but finally confirmed that she is indeed pregnant. In an interview with Sunday Today set to be aired on 10 September, the actress said she was looking forward to becoming a mother and revealed the one thing she hopes to pass down to her child.

"It's so unknown to me. I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I'm like, 'OK, it's out of my hands,' which is kind of a fun feeling," she told Willie Geist in the preview, adding that she was very excited about the life change.

The 38-year-old is expecting her first child and plans to use her late mother as a source of inspiration. "My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did," she said. "My career choice was not something that she was familiar with and she was just so supportive of that."

Kaling hopes to pass on at least one of the mother's traits to her child. "If I could give that to my child, just that open-mindedness, I'd be so happy."

On a lighter note, The Mindy Project star spoke about one of the perks of being a parent that she was looking forward to. "It's so easy to criticise parenting until you're a parent," she joked. "One of the nice things about becoming a parent is that I'll be able to openly criticise other parenting because I will have a child."

The Inside Out voice actress took her time before talking to the media about her pregnancy, with news of it first breaking in July. Later that month, her A Wrinkle In Time co-star Oprah Winfrey also spoke about it, revealing that she was shocked when Kaling told her that she was pregnant.

"My mouth dropped," the 63-year-old explained. "I said, 'WHAAAAT?!'"

While she is well into term, the American-Indian funny-woman is busy with the upcoming season six of The Mindy Project, which premieres on Hulu on 12 September.
