President Trump's megalomaniac ideas will run his 'beloved nation' into the ground
America, formerly the most open and cutting edge nation, has chosen to lock itself inside concrete walls.
"If you want to test a man's character, give him power" – Abraham Lincoln. This is the quote the United States must now live by because of the choice they have made. Donald Trump's character will not only be tested, but will serve as a boost for his egocentric and megalomaniac ideas that will take his "beloved nation" to the ground.
It's a shame that the US couldn't look beyond that dreadful idea of a wall that hasn't been built yet. The real problem is the illness that Trump has spread all across the country, a disease of fear and anger that won't heal easily, nor soon.
It's unclear how fear of the unfamiliar and hatred for the unknown took over the hearts of Americans. But there's no point in mourning what we could have avoided, and like we say in Mexico: "bailamos con la más fea" – "we ended up dancing with the ugliest person".
Even though Trump is not the prettiest person in the room, we still have to dance with him. Now, we ought to look out for ourselves and find a way to work with the most powerful economy in the world, which is now led by an authoritarian racist.
Donald Trump's promises have an expiration date. When the time comes to truly deliver to the American people, his "billion dollar show" will finally crumble beneath his feet.
The world is much better than Donald Trump. Mexico is much bigger than what Donald Trump has said about us, we are a successful, cheerful nation, and if he doesn't want to work with us, it's his loss. Mexico can look for new business partners and friends, we are able to diversify our economy to create more opportunities for our people. We will find another one to dance with.
This is not the end of the world. For Mexico it's an opportunity to explore what other nations have to offer. We can create trade agreements with South America, China, India and Europe. But it's the United States who are the real losers with Donald Trump as their leader.
We, the citizens of the world, face one challenge today; to keep on working to prevent, at all costs, Donald Trump causing more harm to the United States and the rest of the world.
I find quite sad that America, formerly the most open and cutting edge nation, has chosen to lock itself down inside concrete walls. It's tragic that fear, anger and wrath took over and pierced the hearts of their people. It will be hard to recover from this wound; but we better start working to heal as quickly as possible – and bring down the walls that blinded us in the beginning.
