PS4 1TB model: Sony announces Ultimate Player Edition console for 15 July release
Sony has officially announced a new PS4 model with a 1TB hard drive and it will be released on 15 July in Europe and PAL territories.
Announced on the PlayStation Blog, the news comes following the new console's leaking via the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) prior to the E3 trade show in Los Angeles. Sony was expected to announce the new model at its press conference on Tuesday 16 June but apparently decided to wait.
Called the Ultimate Player Edition, no price was announced, with the blog stating players should contact local retailers for more information. Solo 500GB PS4s are currently selling for roughly £300 on Amazon.co.uk.
Like Microsoft's new 1TB Xbox One console – which it announced prior to E3 – the console's look is unchanged, just housing an expanded hard drive twice the size of the largest available since launch.
The PlayStation Blog reads:
"Offering twice the storage of the existing PS4, you'll be able to download more of the games you love to your PS4, extend your play with more great add-on content and save and share even more of your best gaming highlights."
IBTimes UK will be contacting retailers for pricing information and will update this story accordingly.
