Riverdale season 4 premiere: Jughead Jones' fate revealed
Trailer teases Jughead Jones is still missing.
Riverdale Season 4 premieres in October and fans can't wait to find out what's coming next for their favourite Archie comic characters. The CW dropped the latest trailer promising more romance, glamour, mysteries and the big reveal—Jughead Jones' fate.
By the look of the trailer, trouble is certainly far from over for the core characters Archie (KJ Apa), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), and Veronica (Camila Mendes). Riverdale Season 3 finale ended with a bulldozer of a cliffhanger leaving Jughead's fate hanging. It was suggested that the Serpent King is either dead or in jeopardy.
When the show returns for its fourth season, Jughead is still missing. There is no clue of his whereabouts and his father FP Jones, the current sheriff, and former Serpent King, is out with a search party heading into the woods to find his son.
"Isn't it crazy? In just 9 months, life as we know it will be over," Veronica says in the trailer referring to their impending high-school graduation. The trailer does give a few glimpses of Jughead on a regular day, but it is hard to tell whether it's the present or flashbacks.
What comes after got fans worried. The trailer closes with someone buried alive inside a coffin and yelling to be taken out. It can't be said for sure, but it seems Jughead has come very close to death. Theories suggest the person behind Jughead's abduction could be Penny Peabody (Brit Morgan), his long-standing nemesis.
Additionally, fans are worried about Betty. In the clip, she is knocked unconscious by someone after she is hit hard on her head. Whether it is an old enemy or a new one, the trailer doesn't define. Nevertheless, fans must prepare for a dangerous secret that Betty reveals, which puts "everything on the line."
Riverdale Season 4 episode 1 will be a tribute to actor Luke Perry, who plays the role of Fred Andrews. The actor passed away earlier this year.
Speaking to TV Line, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed some more details. Talking about fan-favourite Kevin Keller (Casey Scott), he said that the latter will continue to be a big part of the series and reveal the mysterious doings of The Farm. "The spell is broken" for Kevin says Sacasa.
Riverdale Season 4 episode 1 is titled "Survive the Night" and airs on Wednesday, October 9 on The CW.
