The new Samsung Galaxy S3 that was launched on 3 May will be the official phone of the Olympic Games in London and Samsung has now announced there will also be a special edition of the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Y smartphones.

The new-look smartphones comprise back covers sporting a Union Jack design with a chance to win a trip to a the Team GB training camp or to an Olympic event.

The Galaxy Note will join the line-up alongside the Galaxy S3 as an Olympic phone. A special edition of the Galaxy S3 will be provided to every athlete at the Games to pay for products by using the Near Field Communication (NFC) feature on the new phone. The Note comes with a 5.3in screen which Samsung claims will be the best to watch the Olympic event streamed on the BBC.

If you buy the Galaxy Note or Galaxy Y from O2 then you will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win a visit to the Team GB training camp. The winner will have an opportunity to view the team's preparation and you could also win a couple of tickets to Olympic events like football and volleyball.

Each of the 19 winners of the prize draw (closes on 1 June) will win two tickets to an Olympic Games event, two tickets to the Team GB training camp in Loughborough on 6 July 2012 (including reasonable travel costs and one night pre-arranged accommodation), and two tickets to the Team GB celebration event taking place in London - provisionally slated for 10 September.

If you buy a white coloured Galaxy Note, then you will get a white Team GB lion cover. Both handsets are available at O2 stores as well as online until 24 May. The South Korean giant will be donating £1 to Team Great Britain for every handset sold, which will go to help future Olympic athletes.

The Galaxy Note is an interesting juxtaposition between phone and tablet. It comes with a 5.3in Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 285ppi. It includes internal storage optinos of 16GB and 32GB as well as a microSD card slot with an additional memory of 32GB. It is powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU and Exynos chipset. It has an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and a secondary camera of 2 megapixel.
