Samsung Received Nine Million Pre-Orders For Galaxy S3
Samsung's new Galaxy S3 touts striking specs which include a powerful processor and a whopping rear-facing camera. While a few weeks remain for the official release of the smartphone, Samsung has already received nine million pre-orders globally. The most talked about smartphone is expected to dominate the Android smartphone market.
On the other hand, LG unveiled its Optimus Vu at the Mobile World Congress event 2012. The device comes with a gigantic screen and a specialised stylus.
Here is a rundown of how both smartphones stacks up:
Display
The Galaxy S3 comes with a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The 4.8in screen comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and TouchWiz 4.0 UI. The new Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is a scratch-resistant which offers 20 per cent reduction in terms of thickness.
In comparison, the Optimus Vu flaunts a 5.0in HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
Processor
The Galaxy S3 is powered by a 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core CPU and Exynos 4212 quad chipset. It includes Mali 400MP GPU.
In contrast, the Optimus Vu is powered by a 1.5GHz Scorpion dual-core CPU and Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon chipset. It includes Adreno 220 GPU.
Camera
Both smartphones have an eight megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection and image stabilisation.
They offer support to video recording of 1080p.
The Galaxy S3 provides a front-facing camera of 1.9 megapixel, whereas the Optimus Vu comes with a 1.3 megapixel secondary camera.
Operating System
The Samsung smartphone runs on Google's latest Android 4.0.4 ICS operating system.
The Optimus Vu runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
Connectivity
Both smartphones feature Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot. The Galaxy S3 offers support to Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and EDR as well as NFC.
On the other hand, the Optimus Vu supports Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and HS.
Storage
The Galaxy S3 offers internal storage variants - 16/32/64GB and 1GB RAM. It comprises of a microSD card slot with an additional memory of 64GB.
In comparison, the Optimus Vu contains onboard storage of 32GB and 1GB RAM. It has a microSD card which is expandable up to 32GB.
Battery
The Samsung smartphone packs a Li-Ion 2100mAh, whereas the Optimus Vu includes Li-Ion 2080mAh standard battery.
