British actress Elizabeth Hurley visited India with her ex-husband Arun Nayar and their son Damien on December 25, 2011. This is not the first time the “Bedazzled” star has visited the country. In fact, she was even in the north Indian state of Rajasthan, for a grand and glamorous Hindu-style marriage to Nayar, a textile baron from the city of Mumbai. Since then, Hurley has had many occasions to visit the country – she is currently in a relationship with former Australian international cricketer Shane Warne, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals team, in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

American chat show queen, Oprah Winfrey, was recently in India, on a five-day visit. Her first reported stop was the residence of the Bachchans, one of Bollywood’s most influential families, to see the newest member of the clan – the daughter born to Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She was also spotted at a mega-party held in her honour… the guest list of which included some of the biggest and most glamorous names in the film industry. The gregarious talk show host, of course, wore a sari!

American hotel heiress, socialite and model Paris Hilton always turns heads… wherever she goes. Such is the attraction of the petite blonde’s glamorous lifestyle that only the very best and most exclusive is considered worthy of her notice. Her visit to India, in September, was no different. She arrived in a whirlwind of fashion and parties… and will probably be most remembered for the stunningly pink, Swarvoski crystals-studded sari and the impromptu decision to give a beggar on the streets of Mumbai a $100 note.

Italian-American singer and entertainer Lady Gaga really needs no introduction. Whether or not one is a fan of her music (or her extravagant hairstyles or costumes), the fact remains she is unquestionably a fashion diva. In the country to headline at the F1 Rocks! Does this mean the sari is no longer a purely Indian outfit? Does the fact that several designers, Indian or otherwise, have re-created the concept and image of the sari change its essence?
We argue it doesn't. The grace, attitude and elegance of these women says it all...
