Southampton to sign Nathan Redmond to replace departing Liverpool target Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane is close to signing for Liverpool this summer.
Southampton are closing in on a £11m ($15m) deal for Nathan Redmond, paving the path for Sadio Mane's prospective transfer to Liverpool. The Norwich winger was top of Southampton's list of transfers for the summer, who expect to have a medical done for the forward by the end of this week.
The Mirror reports that the winger is back from holiday and is set to move over to the St Mary's as Mane's £30m ($41m) move to Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail, comes to fruition. Redmond has made 35 appearances for the Canaries in the league last season, scoring six goals and assisting three. Meanwhile, Mane has scored 11 goals and assisted six in all competitions and Redmond has to step up his game by leaps and bounds to replicate Mane's success with the Saints.
The Canaries tied to keep hold of the youngster but Redmond has his heart set on playing in the Premier League, with Norwich being relegated last season alongside Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Southampton are still trying to negotiate a deal for Mane, with the Saints valuing the Senegalese international at around £40m ($55m), but are likely to settle for much less.
The Senegalese international would join a long list of players who have moved from St Mary's to Anfield under Brendan Rodgers but will be the first under Klopp, who finished last season in eighth spot, two positions behind Southampton. Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne have all made the switch but Mane could be more influential than all of them especially with Daniel Sturridge struggling with injury and Christian Benteke out of favour with Klopp.
Mane will be Liverpool's second transfer of the summer, having brought in Mainz keeper Lois Karius to Anfield as understudy to Simon Mignolet. The Reds face Arsenal at the Emirates on the opening day of the season and need to have their best possible squad at hand to start the season on a high.
