Spain: Animal rights activist called a 'whore' by police for comforting dying bull
A female animal rights activist bravely came to the rescue of a dying bull by jumping into the ring before the bull was given a final stab.
Virginia Ruiz, 38, alleges she could hear the moans of the "crying" animal during a bullfighting event in Malaga, Spain, on 16 August.
"I could hear him [the bull] crying in pain and I jumped down, walked across the ring to where he lay dying," said Ruiz, reported The Dodo.
"He looked at me and I believe he felt my energy. I wanted to give him love before he left this earth.
"He was still alive before they could do the final stabbing with the small knife in the back of the neck. He was crying, he tried looking at the people."
Ruiz says her intention upon visiting the 9,000-seat event was to capture the cruelty on video, which she claims is not a symbol of Spain.
Ruiz was pulled out of the ring and confronted by the local police.
She faces a trespassing fine up to 6,000 euros (£4,223).
"They called me names... they kicked me, they spit on me, they told me to go back to the kitchen and they called me a whore," said Ruiz.
