Sports stars and celebrities make bold fashion statements at 2016 ESPY Awards red carpet

ESPY Awards 2016 kicked off with a red carpet event that was high on glamour, as athletes, sportspersons and celebrities gathered at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday, 13 July. From Seattle Seahawk star Russell Wilson to champion skier Lindsey Vonn, the red carpet was a parade of stars attired in their best.

Interestingly, quite a number of couples decided to get sporty for the big night, as they turned up in dapper suits and gowns that complemented each other's style. IBTimes UK has rounded up the best of couple style from the red carpet event of the 2016 ESPY awards:

Ciara and Russell Wilson

Ever since Russell Wilson tied the knot with Ciara in a castle-style ceremony in London, their wedding fashion has been doing the rounds on the internet. And now, the Wilsons have given more reasons to follow their trend as they walked on the ESPY red carpet in complementing ensembles. The 30-year-old singer followed up her Roberto Cavalli wedding gown with a subtle pink number on Wednesday night with a bold neckline.

The dress featured a sequined front and a powder-pink skirt with a short train. Her quarterback husband amped up his style with a white suit, complete with a black bow tie.

John Cena and Nikki Bella

WWE wrestler John Cena might "eff up" once in a while, when it comes to his relationship with fellow wrestler and girlfriend Nikki Bella; but as a couple, the duo scored perfect fashion points on the ESPY red carpet. Since Cena was also hosting the awards this year, the actor-cum-wrestler was dressed in a debonair two-piece suit. Before he took to the stage, he also posed for the cameras with the Total Divas and Total Bellas star.

Nikki cut a striking figure during the awards in her off-shoulder black latex dress that sat perfectly on her fit physique. The reality star showed off her daring style, with easy-flowing locks and a metallic choker.

Stephen Curry and Ayesha

NBA star Stephen Curry, who also bagged an award for best record-breaking performance for his single season three-pointers, made an adorable pair with his wife Ayesha at the ESPYs. The Golden State Warriors basketball player donned a metallic blue jacket over his otherwise suave two-piece, while Ayesha rocked in a blood red Theia dress.

The mother-of-two matched the hue of her dress with dark lips, but kept her footwear minimal with nude Jimmy Choo pumps.
