The Syria conflict erupted in 2011, following the wave of uprisings known as the Arab Spring that spread throughout the Middle East and overthrowing regimes that had lasted for decades.
After 34 months of civil war, more than 130,000 people are dead, 9.5m have lost their homes and there appears no end in sight to the fighting.
