Coronavirus refers to a family of viruses known as Coronaviridae, which can cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe respiratory diseases. The most well-known coronavirus is SARS-CoV-2, which is responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Severe Coronaviruses(cause serious illnesses):
- SARS-CoV (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) – 2002 outbreak
- MERS-CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) – 2012 outbreak
- SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) – 2019 pandemic
Symptoms of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2):
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Loss of taste or smell
- Body aches
- Severe cases can lead to pneumonia and organ failure
How It Spreads:
- Person-to-person through respiratory droplets (coughing, sneezing, talking)
- Surface contact (less common)
- Airborne transmission in enclosed spaces
Prevention:
- Vaccination
- Wearing masks in crowded places
- Hand hygiene
- Social distancing
