Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move in singing Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mirror claims that the 25-year-old is desperately keen on leaving the La Liga outfit after just one season in Spain and the north London outfit are plotting swoop for the defender.

Alderweireld made the switch to Vicente Calderon from Eredivise giants Ajax after signing a four-year deal last summer.

However, the Belgium international was restricted to make just 22 appearances in all competitions for the newly crowned La Liga champions during the 2013/14 season.

The 25-year-old wants regular first-team football and is ready to depart the Champions League runners-up even if it means not getting a chance to feature in Europe's top competition in the upcoming campaign.

Newly appointed Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino, is ready to take the plunge in the transfer market as he wants to spruce up his squad for the upcoming campaign.

The 42-year-old Argentinean will be keen on proving that the club's hierarchy made the right choice in appointing him as the successor to Tim Sherwood by guiding them into a top four finish in the Premier League.

The report suggests that the former Southampton manager has received strong recommendations from his scouts to target Alderweireld as the perfect signing to usher his era at White Hart Lane.

The three-time Eredivise and one-time La Liga winner had been a target for Liverpool last summer but he opted to turn down the offer from Brendan Rodgers' side in favour of the Spanish capital outfit.

Alderweireld's primary position at the back four lies at the centre, but the right-footed Belgian is also capable of playing at right-back.

However, the Mirror's report points out the 25-year-old's purported desire to leave Diego Simeone's side could depend on transfers of his teammates.

Atletico's 29-year-old centre-back Miranda, has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona during the upcoming transfer window. If the Brazilian international heads for the exit-door, Simeone might be reluctant to allow the former Ajax star to follow suit.

Should Alderweireld's move to White Hart Lane come through, then the process of settling down could be eased by his compatriots, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli.

The Tottenham trio, alongside the Atletico defender are a part of Marc Wilmots' Belgium squad for the World Cup, where they face Alegeria, Russia and Korea Republic in Group H.
