AVB: It's Clear What Striker Signing Can Do For Us

Andre Villas-Boas has expressed delight in having Emmanuel Adebayor on board at Tottenham, with the Portuguese tactician describing his latest signing as 'one of the family'.

At one stage over the summer it looked unlikely that Adebayor would make his move to Spurs permanent, with the 28 year old facing problems over his sky-high wage at Manchester City.

But after long drawn-out discussions, Tottenham were finally able to make an arrangement to keep both the player and City happy, and Villas-Boas says he'll slot in perfectly at White Hart Lane again.

"He had an extremely good season here last season and it's almost like he already belongs to the family," he told the Tottenham website. "It's pretty clear what he can do for us."

Tottenham will be looking to make use of Adebayor this weekend when they take on West Brom, with Villas-Boas keen to make up for their opening loss against Newcastle.

"It's been a good response this week, obviously we're all disappointed with the result, but we all discussed afterwards how we didn't see Brad make a save in the game, so that explains it all," he explained.

"We kept Newcastle's chances to a minimum, but came away with a result that didn't serve us well. It was an extremely good performance.

"Now we have a different type of game, a different proposition at home against West Brom.

"We have to be sensible because they had an extremely good result against Liverpool, they are a team that is deadly on the counter-attack, so we have to take that into account with how we attack and when we attack.

"We've worked well during the week. It was a full week, no international break and hopefully we can go to White Hart Lane and get the result we all want."

Tottenham will face a tougher test than ever to get back into Champions League contention this season, with Liverpool and Chelsea further strengthening their side over the summer to overtake Spurs for a top four spot.

Newcastle can't be discounted either, having kept their squad that kept their hopes of Champions League football alive until the final day of the season.

With that in mind, the north London side will be looking get off to a flying start as they aim to be in the mix for the top-tier European competition.
