UK Games Chart 14 Nov.: Skyrim Felled By Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3
Proving once and for all that the semi-automatic rifle is mightier than the sword, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has beaten The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, taking the UK chart's top spot in its opening week.
Reports suggest that though Modern Warfare 3 is currently running fairly evenly in unit sales with its predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops, it is beating it in revenue. The news means that Modern Warfare 3 now boasts the highest grossing opening week of all time.
According to Chart Track, Xbox 360 sales led Modern Warfare's offensive accounting for 59 per cent of units sold. Behind it the PlayStation 3 spoke for a still sizable 40 per cent of units sold.
Below it, Bethesda's epic fantasy title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim debuted at number two. Despite missing out on the number one slot, the game has been reported as enjoying the company's biggest ever opening week, doubling the sales of Bethesda's Fallout: New Vegas.
Dropping down another place from last week, EA's Battlefield suffered a disastrous 62 per cent drop in sales to finish in third place. Below it the perennially popular FIFA 12 and Just Dance 3 continued to perform well finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.
Dropping from second place, Sony's PS3-exclusive Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception fell a massive four places to finish in sixth.
In the lower echelons of the top 10 Mind Candy's Moshi Monsters broke in at number seven, with Batman: Arkham City and Zumba Fitness following in eighth and ninth. At the very bottom, returning from a pro-longed absence, Nintendo's Wii Party rejoined the top 10 in tenth place.
