Model number GT-I9190 of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has now started receiving the much awaited Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update with a firmware build number I9190UBUBMK2.

Apart from being available as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update, users can also get it via Samsung KIES.

However, some users might have missed the update because they missed the OTA update notification. There were several other users who were unable to access the update over Samsung KIES app.

The following step-by-step guide from HonaiOfAndroid will allow them to install the update manually.

1. Users will have to install the USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini on their computers.

Steps by step method to perform the firmware upgrade

Step 1: First off, users will have to extract the Firmware zip file. Applications like winrar or 7zip or winzip will work just fine. As a result, you should get a .tar.md5 file and some other files.

Step 2: Next, users must extract the Odin zip file. Upon doing so, they will get an Odin3 v3.07.exe along with few other files.

Step 3: Turn off the Galaxy S4 Mini.

Step 4: Boot the device into Download Mode by holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons simultaneously until a construction Android robot icon with a warning triangle appears on screen. Press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.
Step 5: On the computer, users must run Odin as an Administrator.

Step 6: Connect the handset to the computer using USB cable while it is in Download Mode.

Step 7: Users must wait until the Odin application detects the device.

Step 8: Upon successfully connecting, the ID: COM box will turn to light blue with the COM port number. Apart from this, the successfully connection will be indicated by a message that says 'Added'.

Note: If the Added message does not appear, then users will have to re-install USB drivers. They can also try changing the port used on the computer.

Step 9: Users must now select the following files in Odin from extracted I9190UBUBMK2 firmware folder:

First, click the PDA button and select the .tar.md5 file. After this, proceed to click the Phone button and select the file with MODEM in its name. However, if there is no such file, ignore. Click the CSC button and then select the file with CSC in its name. Again, if there is no such file present, please ignore. Now, click the PIT button and select the .pit file. If there is no such file, please ignore.

Step 10: Enter Odin and enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes. Please ensure that the Re-Partition checkbox is chosen only if a .pit file was chosen in the previous step.

Step 11: We recommend that you double check if Step 7 and Step 8 were done correctly. If so, then hit the Startbutton to begin the installation process.

Step 12: After installation process has been completed, your handset will restart. You will see a 'PASS' message on a green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. It is now safe to unplug the USB cable to disconnect it from the computer.

Users should move over to Settings >> About Phone to verify the software version running on the device.

What to do if your handset is stuck at the booting animation after Step 10?

Then you're going to have to wipe the data. Go to recovery mode (press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together) and choose 'Wipe data/Factory Reset'. Also choose 'Wipe Cache Partition' task before selecting reboot system now function.

Once you're in the recovery mode, use the Volume keys to navigate between options. The Power key must be used to select the option. Even though performing the wiping task will erase your device's internal memory data, it will not affect the external SD card data.
