Vin Diesel hints at Brian O'Conner's return in 'Fast & Furious 9'
Vin Diesel posted a picture along with Paul Walker's brother, Cody, on Instagram, hinting at a possible return of the Brian O'Conner character in Fast & Furious 9.
Vin Diesel took to Instagram on Saturday and shared a photograph with Paul Walker's brother, Cody, from the set of "Fast & Furious 9." The actor's post hinted that the character of Brian O'Conner, played by Paul Walker, will be resurrected in the new franchise.
Whether Cody Walker will return for "Fast & Furious 9" as a stand in for his brother Paul Walker is now a matter of speculation, Cinema Blend reports. Cody and his brother Caleb were stand-ins for Paul in "Fast & Furious 7," the movie that was left unfinished after Paul's untimely death. They were helping to finish their brother's scenes after he died in a car crash in November 2013, at the age of 40.
"There is something special that happens every time Cody comes to visit production.... Always making Pablo proud! All love, always," Diesel captioned the photograph on his Instagram.
Paul's face was superimposed on the bodies of Caleb and Cody with the help of state-of-the-art CGI as filming continued in his absence. The latest installment of the franchise is due for release in May 2020.
Before the release of "Fast & Furious 8," Caleb and Cody hinted that similar techniques could be used to bring Brian back for future installments. "I had a phone call with Vin for about an hour and we really discussed this a while back. He wanted (our) blessing. (Diesel asked if it) would be acceptable to maybe bring Paul's character back... to really kind of let his fans know he's still out there," said Caleb in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Paul's character, Brian, was given an emotional send-off at the end of Furious 7. The end of the movie showed him retiring to a life of domesticity with his wife, Mia (played by Jordana Brewster), and their children.
It is likely that Cody was on the set of the movie to shoot the part of Brian along with Dom (Vin Diesel). "Fast & Furious 9" is not the end of the franchise. The 10th movie has already been given a release date of April 2, 2021.
"Fast and Furious 9" also starts Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, John Cena, Michael Rooker, Finn Cole, and Anna Sawai. The movie is directed by Justin Lin.
