#WelcomeBackTo1DZayn: Twitter upset when hoax hashtag suggests Zayn Malik's return to One Direction
Confusion over Zayn Malik's supposed return to One Direction has left avid fans of the band in a whirlwind of emotion, after #WelcomeBackto1DZayn began trending late last night (31 May).
The hashtag was allegedly started by a sole super-fan, who after watching a Brazilian TV documentary that apparently depicted Malik saying he was coming back to the band sometime this year, took to Twitter to share the news.
Malik confirmed he was leaving 1D in March 2015 to enable him to live a more "normal life", however it was later revealed that the 22-year-old was making his own solo music with producer Naughty Boy.
Soon after, speculation over the fact that Malik had actually left the band to concentrate on his relationship with Little Mix band member Perrie Edwards emerged.
But whatever Malik's reasons for leaving One Direction, it seems like the fans are still not ready to say goodbye to one fifth of The X Factor boyband.
Following the realisation that the hashtag millions of them had been tweeting had no truth surrounding it, passionate fans took took to Twitter once again to share in their pain about the news not being real.
