Overview
Desperate to avoid relegation, West Brom registered a narrow 1-0 victory against fellow strugglers Norwich City in their previous league fixture at Carrow Road. Morgan Amalfitano scored the solitary goal for the away side to secure a precious three points.
The victory helped Pepe Mel's side leapfrog the Canaries into 16th place, five points clear of 18th placed Fulham.
Meanwhile, Spurs handed Sunderland a 5-1 drubbing at the White Hart Lane last Monday. Lee Cattermole's goal for the Black Cats was cancelled out by Emmanuel Adebayor in the first half. Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen got in on the scoring act to put Tottenham in a commanding position in the second half.
Adebayor netted his second goal in the 86th minute and Gylfi Sigurdsson added a fifth goal in injury time to complete the rout.
Tim Sherwood's side are sixth in the league table with 59 points from 33 matches, five points behind their fourth-placed north London rivals Arsenal.
Tottenham's quest for a place in the Champions League next season is also dependent on Everton's results. The Toffees are fifth in the table with 63 points, with six games to go.
Mel will be hoping that his side will make use of their home advantage to steer away from relegation places as difficult trips to Manchester City and Arsenal await the Baggies before the end of the season.
What the Managers Say
Pepe Mel: "All I want is for West Bromwich Albion to be in the Premier League next season. If we could win we would be very close to Premier League safety, which is why this game is highly important. It's normal that when a coach comes in midway through the season then a team has problems. We've resolved the issues and I think the end to our season will be a good one. We will have a successful end."
Tim Sherwood: "It was good to get a win against Sunderland and to score five goals was fantastic. We'll bounce into this match against West Brom, we'll look to take the game to them and see if they can hold out. We know they have threats but it's about us and that's all we want to concentrate on, imposing ourselves on West Brom. If we do that, match their work rate and endeavour and play on the front foot, we should win the game."
