Overview

Hosts West Indies' struggle in the five-day format continued in the last Test match at Gros Islet, where they suffered a 237-run loss to India in what was an abject display of cricket.

That the West Indies players are more driven towards the shorter formats of the game is known, but the display at Gros Islet showed that they would need to improve vastly if they want to even be competitive in the longer format of the game.

A lot was expected from the senior players, in particular Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo, but they have disappointed so far. Samuels has scored 148 runs, while Bravo has only managed 129 runs, returns which are not good enough to cut it at the Test level.

If there has been a silver lining, it has been in the bowling department where Shannon Gabriel, Alzarri Joseph and Miguel Cummins have shown improvement bowling with pace and determination. The Windies are not expected to make any changes for the game, which means that the under performing players get a last chance to impress the selectors.

The visitors India, have had a brilliant time in the Test series dominating the hosts so far. They come into this game on the back of an impressive 237-run win over West Indies and will look to continue in the same fashion.

What was impressive in the last Test was that their pace bowlers won them the game, which is a good sign for the tough assignments ahead. In Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav, the Men in Blue have finally settled on a combination which is capable of winning them matches.

Their batting has looked solid so far, with Ajinkya Rahane in particular looking in brilliant touch. In fact, five Indian batsman have scored more than 200 runs in the series with the surprise being R Ashwin, who has scored two centuries in the series.

India who dropped Murali Vijay and Chetashwar Pujara for the last game are expected to retain the same squad which means Rohit Sharma will get another outing with the bat.
