After downloading the latest version of WhatsApp apk, install it. Ensure that you have enabled Unknown Sources, which can be found under the phone's Security Settings. Now launch WhatsApp, and you will find the new UI of the app with the call functionality enabled. The feature has been confirmed by several users.
The Calls tab in WhatsApp carries the log for incoming, outgoing and missed calls. You can place a call to any contact while chatting with them or by browsing the list of contacts. However, if their WhatsApp version is not compatible you will receive a warning.
When you call a user who is offline, you will hear the phone ring. If the person you are calling does not pick up, he or she will receive a notification for the missed call.
The new WhatsApp version allows switching to speakerphone mode as well as muting the microphone. A notification showing the duration of the call is also available, besides the option to hang up. But there is no option to make a network call when you are inside the app. So you will have to head out to the phone's contact list to do so.
