Willow Smith, Jessica Chastain in head to toe Chanel for couture, but where was Kristen Stewart?
The new face of the brand looked striking in a suede ensemble but fellow ambassador was absent.
Couture week, particularly at Chanel is a notoriously hard event to get an invite to so those who do find themselves on the list are either regular and highly-valued customers or the cream of the crop of the fashion, music and art industries. Tuesday's Haute Couture show (July 5) at the Grand Palais was no different with a smattering of elite show goers amidst a select group of A-list ambassadors carefully picked by Karl Lagerfeld.
One star who was noticeably absent was brand ambassador Kristen Stewart. Usually a regular face at all Chanel events, the 26 year old actress was no where to be seen. The actress was spotted at Somerset House in London at the end of June for a Chanel beauty launch but has been missed at couture.
Luckily new addition to the Chanel family Willow Smith was more than happy to step in as the face of the brand along with fellow ambassador Jessica Chastain who was also in attendance for the show in Paris today.
Wearing a laidback seafoam hued suede tunic and trousers to the show with a pair of black leather fingerless gloves and bold matching make up, the 15 year old actress and singer looked at home with the couture crowd but brought along her dad Will Smith for the event.
Proud of her new job with the luxury french brand, Smith revealed that her position was not with surprise to some "It's not every day that a 15 year-old black girl with dreads gets elected to be the Chanel ambassador" she told The Telegraph during the show today "I know a lot of girls that look like me feel that they're not beautiful and feel like they don't have a place in the media or a place in the world." The actress and singer who has attended Chanel events before has been outspoken for many years on the role of women and empowerment despite being only 15 years old and today is no different.
Fellow ambassador Jessica Chastain was the perfect Chanel siren mixing a daring patent leather pencil skirt with a crisp, white shirt and delicately embroidered tweed jacket from the french brand.
The collection presented by Karl Lagerfeld to the audience was a touching tribute to his ateliers who are usually kept hidden away in the workshops of Chanel. Turning the spotlight onto the seamstresses and tailors, Lagerfeld recreated the iconic studios on Rue de Cambon inside the Grand Palais where the models presented the latest couture creations to the fashion industry whilst the ateliers could be seen working alongside.
Rumours that the creative director would be stepping down from his role at Chanel were quashed earlier this year by Lagerfeld himself, but the designer took a clear step back today as he joined the team for the final bow rather than taking it alone with the models.
