Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview to Get Fix for 80188309 Error
Users should ignore present update notification and wait for further updates
Microsoft is expected to release an update to the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview.
Microsoft announced the availability of Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview on 14 April. Users can update their dev phones to run Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Preview for Developers Programme. Besides, the Windows Phone Store is also starting to accept app submission and to enable app linking.
In order to update the Windows Phone 8 device to the latest Windows Phone 8.1, developers need to download the Preview for Developers app and opt into the programme. Those whose phones are already opted in should head over to the phone's setting and check for an update.
It now appears that some users were having issues while updating to the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. Several users posted the same issue at the Microsoft support forum, according to which Windows Phone 8.1 update had been downloading but was not opening and was showing the 80188309 error.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and confirmed that it would release a fix. Eli A, a forum moderator announced that the update notification has stopped for all devices that have not received the first update yet. He has advised that one ignore the update notification and wait for further updates. He has also mentioned he would update users on 24 April with additional news.
However, there is no word as to when Microsoft will roll out the update to the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. Given below is the statement by Eli A at the Microsoft support forum regarding the fix for 80188309 error.
Hello Everyone,
Here is the Friday update on how things are moving forward. Without further delay, here is the news for today:
1. A little clarification on the update notification. The notification has stopped for all devices that have not yet taken the first update, however those that have taken the first update and are waiting for the second update to the current 8.1 build will continue to occur. At this point, I would recommend ignoring the update notification and wait for further updates from us.
2. The update itself is not going to be available today, or likely early next week. We will continue to work on getting you this update but it will not be as fast as you would like. I know a lot of you would like a better timeline on when it will be available, and at this time I cannot commit to a date. I will however, commit to updating you next Thursday April 24th, 2014 with any additional news. If I have any news or details before then, I will of course update you at that time.
We appreciate you being eager to participate in the Windows Phone Developer Preview Program, and look forward to getting it to you as soon as possible.
[Update: This is for all devices experiencing the 80188309, not just the Huawei devices.]
Thank you,
Eli A.
