FA Cup fifth round: Preston North End 1-3 Manchester United - as it happened
Full time: Preston North End 1-3 Manchester United
Full time at Deepdale after a brief second half test, United unlock Preston with three second half goals to set up a quarter-final meeting with Arsenal. Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney with the goals after Scott Laird gave Preston a shock early lead.
Well that's all we've got time for on this live text. We're back tomorrow will live coverage of the return of the Champions League as PSG host Chelsea. Until then, goodbye.
Goal: Preston North End 1-2 Manchester United (Marouane Fellaini)
Van Gaal's side seemingly out of jail as United turn it around. Valencia's cross finds Fellaini at the back post, who out-jumps Clarke, is denied by Stuckmann at the first attempt but from the rebound he lashes the ball home. Perhaps justice done, after Davies escaped punishment.
Goal: Preston North End 1-1 Manchester United (Ander Herrera)
United level after 65 minutes and it comes via a controversial Ander Herrera goal. Young's pull-back comes the way of Herrera who sorts his feet out and while his shot evades Rooney, who is in an offside position, the England captain is in the goalkeeper's line of sight before it rolls into the corner. Stuckmann fuming.
Half time: Preston North End 0-0 Manchester United
Goalless and chance-less and Deepdale at half time where Preston are frustrating Premier League Manchester United. Preston look spirited by they're not showing much ambition going forward while United look ponderous and slow on the ball. Becoming something of a trend.
First shot on goal from either side comes from Preston North End as Joe Garner who, as anyone who watched the play-off semi-finals last season, has a wicked shot on him but this one is tame and De Gea makes an easy save. At the other end, Rooney tries to play through Fellaini but his pass is misdirected.
Preston are two-time winners of the FA Cup but their last success came back in 1938 and represents the last time the club won a major trophy. They're just three wins away from matching that amazing feat against the record winners of the trophy in Manchester United, who have not won the trophy since 2004, the only time this century.
Preston will no doubt be encouraged by United's struggles in the previous rounds against dogged Football League opponents. It took a stunning goal from Ander Herrera to break the deadlock at Huish Park against Yeovil Town, while Cambridge United took Louis van Gaal's team to a replay before being disposed of at Old Trafford. Preston are uncompromising, muscly and will be a real test for the Premier League outfit. One Kevin Davies leads the attack for the two-time winners too.

Preston make three changes from the win at Chesterfield a week ago. Sam Johnstone, on loan from Old Trafford, is replaced by Thorsten Stuckman, while Chris Humphry and Neil Kilkenny – the latter of whom played under Simon Grayson when Leeds United shocked the Premier League side in the same competition five years ago, both come in.
Louis van Gaal makes four changes to the side which beat Burnley in mid-week. Phil Jones is replaced by two-goal hero Chris Smalling and Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrra and Marouane Fellaini return. No sight of Robin van Persie in the Manchester United squad as Radamel Falcao leads the attack presumably alongside Marouane Fellaini.
After another weekend where the magic dust of the FA Cup was sprinkled over the competition once again, what will occur in our final tie of the round as League One side Preston host Manchester United. Preston have strolled to this stage, and with three other Football League sides in the competition will be dreaming of Wembley while United have already seen off two lower league opposition while this competition represents Louis van Gaal's only chance to win silverware.
