3 teens live-streamed sex acts on Facebook as classmates watched it during class
The police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have issued a warrant on Facebook to obtain all data on the account of a 14-year-old, after three teenagers reportedly live-streamed sex acts on Facebook, while their classmates watched it during class.
The incident took place in January 2016, but reports are just emerging. According to a report by a local Milwaukee CBS affiliate, the incident involved two teenage girls aged 14 and 15 and a third 15- year-old boy, all of whom are believed to be students at the Barack Obama School. The Milwaukee police warrant says that the two girls could be charged with "exposing a child to harmful material" and is demanding that Facebook turn over all information, including pictures, videos, status history, email and IP address of a 14-year old.
The Milwaukee school district told CBS: "In January, staff became aware of a video depicting inappropriate conduct that took place outside of school and off campus. The school immediately notified proper authorities and cooperated with the investigation. We took appropriate disciplinary action against those involved, which would be in addition to any outside consequences they may face."
Facebook representatives refused to comment on specific cases, but they told Gizmodo that the company policies on Facebook Live provide viewers with the option of reporting violations of community standards when watching a live stream.
The statement reads: "We do understand and recognise that there are unique challenges when it comes to content and safety for Live videos. It's a serious responsibility, we work hard to strike the right balance between enabling expression while providing a safe and respectful experience. If someone does violate our Community Standards while using Live, we want to interrupt these streams as quickly as possible when they're reported to us. So we've given people a way to report violations during a live broadcast."
The video was reportedly not filmed at the Barack Obama School, but it was viewed by several students. Of the three teenagers who participated in the video, the 15-year-old boy was not listed as a suspect on the Milwaukee police warrant.
Social media broadcasts have recently seen a disturbing trend. Earlier in May a French teenager live-streamed her own suicide on Periscope, while in April an American teenager was indicted on several charges after being accused of live streaming the rape of a 17- year-old friend on Periscope.
