Shocking footage has been released of the moment a newborn baby was found alive inside a black bin bag. The baby, which had been so tragically discarded, still had its umbilical cord and placenta attached.
Video posted online and believed to be from the Philippines, shows a group of men and women coming to the aid of the infant after it was discovered lying on the side of the road inside the bag. A woman in a pink tracksuit is filmed putting on a pair of plastic cleaning gloves before ripping open the bag containing the infant. Another bystander lays out a piece of fabric for the baby to be placed on.
The baby is seen opening out is arms as it is picked up by one of its rescuers. Their surprise is evident as they take the baby out of the bag. The women wrap the baby in the material alongside the placenta and carry it to safety. Despite being exposed to the elements, the baby is believed to have survived.
On Tuesday (13 October), the body of a newborn was found by a council cleaner inside a bin in Cape Town, South Africa, according to Eyewitness News. Earlier this month, a baby was found abandoned in a box in Corby in Northamptonshire.
Every year, tens of thousands of parents across the world abandon one or more of their children.
