Agent confirms Liverpool interest in Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour
Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour's agent has confirmed that Liverpool are among the numerous clubs that have expressed interest in the player's services this summer.
His agent believes Monaco are unlikely to come in the way of Abdennour's departure, with the Reds firm in the race for a possible transfer. Serie A trio AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus, along with Barcelona are also interested in a move.
"There are clubs who have approached us and who will enter into contact with Monaco," his agent Abdelkader Jilani told Foot Mercato.
"There is AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Liverpool. Juventus - they've already seen Monaco. I don't think that Monaco will prevent Abdennour from leaving," he claimed.
The Tunisia defender has been in brilliant form this season, notably during their game against Arsenal at the Emirates in the Champions League, restricting the Gunners to a solitary goal, which helped them secure qualification into the quarter-final stage of Europe's most revered tournament.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been brittle at the back last season, conceding four goals against Arsenal at the Emirates and three versus Manchester United at Old Trafford, something they have to address if they have to challenge for a top four spot next season.
New signing Dejan Lovren has failed to live up to expectations and may be moved on to make way for Abdennour, as Martin Skrtel is reportedly ready to extend his contract with the Merseyside club. The Serbian was linked with a move to Inter Milan, but the player rejected the transfer and should be signing a contract in the next few days.
Liverpool have been extremely busy in the transfer window already this season, securing five transfers, including a massive deal for Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, along with astute signings in Joe Gomez from Charlton, Adam Bogdan from Bolton, James Milner from Manchester City and Danny Ings from Burnley.
The Reds have also made an improved bid for Nathaniel Clyne and are confident of beating Manchester United to his signature.
