Alien: Covenant promises 'lots of blood' and 'horror' in first look footage and trailer
As part of 20th Century Fox's upcoming 2017 film line-up showcase, critics attended a special preview screening.

Following on from the film's poster reveal last month, 20th Century Fox has screened the first 15 minutes and trailer of upcoming Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant leaving audiences impressed. Taking to social media, those who attended the screening were full of praise for the Ridley Scott outing and emphasised how "scary" it looks to be.
On Twitter user wrote: "The ALIEN: COVENANT footage is intense. Lots of blood. Lots of protruding aliens," while another said: "Make no mistake. This is a full blown, bloody HORROR film, in line with the original."

FOX just showed us first footage from Alien: Covenant. Make no mistake. This is a full blown, bloody HORROR film, in line with original.

The film itself is set to centre around the crew of a colony spacescraft called Covenant, who travel to an uncharted paradise. But in true Alien style, soon after they arrive there, they discover the land is dark and dangerous and the 'sole' inhabitant is android David (Michael Fassbender, reprising his role from the 2012 film). Although, of course, there are some extraterrestrials lurking about to wreak havoc too...
If you were hungry for more xenomorph action, then #AlienCovenant has you covered. @joblocom

(It seems like DEAD SPACE and there are back-bursters now. looks scary. At the risk of hyperbole, it almost looks as scary as earth!)

Others at the exposition event honed in on lead Katherine Waterston and her character; explaining that she had obvious similarities to the franchise's original heroine Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). The word "badass" was thrown around in reference to her in several tweets, which can only be a good thing!
Katherine Waterstonâs character looks to be way more Ripley than woman-in-distress. Kind of a badass. #AlienCovenant @joblocom

The first #AlienCovenant footage is intense as hell. Lots of xenomorph spawns. Katherine Waterston and Amy Seimetz (!) are great.

While most who attended the preview concentrated on the film's scares, the intriguing storyline gripped a fair few along with the fact this instalment didn't necessarily focus on space explorers but rather those looking to move to a new planet. Many viewers highlighted that a lot of the characters were couples too, so it seems like Scott is keen to maintain a human element alongside all the gory action.
What's interesting about #AlienCovenant is that most of the space travelers this time are couples & colonists. And the aliens are crazy! pic.twitter.com/bw1gkmC7V0

Given the overwhelmingly positive response from the showcase, it's likely that Alien: Covenant's first trailer will be unveiled very soon. Also starring Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup and Noomi Rapace, Alien: Covenant will be released in both the UK and the US on 19 May 2017.
