All 44 Premier League and Championship clubs are set to begin their respective Wembley quests as the all-important draw for the third-round of the Emirates FA Cup takes place on Monday evening (5 December) at the BT Tower in London's West End.
Where to watch live
The draw is set to begin at 19.10 GMT, shortly before National League high-flyers Lincoln City host League One relegation candidates Oldham Athletic at Sincil Bank, and can be viewed both on BBC Two and BT Sport 1. Arsenal legend Ian Wright and recently-retired former Liverpool stalwart Steven Gerrard will be on hand to select the home and away teams.
Key dates
There will be 32 ties drawn in total, all of which will be played across the weekend of 6-9 January 2017.
Overview
This is where proceedings start to get serious. While the early stages of the FA Cup typically give a chance for the minnows of the English footballing pyramid to boost their coffers and enjoy a rare moment in the limelight, now the spotlight begins to shine on the heavy hitters as the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United all enter the equation.
While most non-league sides have now predictably fallen by the wayside, there is still opportunity for one or two David vs Goliath-esque match-ups that will bring dollar signs to the eyes of pragmatic chairmen. Paul Cox and the players representing fifth-tier play-off hopefuls Barrow will be eager to see their reward for a superb 2-1 victory away at Bristol Rovers that certainly went down as the biggest upset of round two.
National League North strugglers Curzon Ashton's bid to reach the third round for the first time was ended in dramatic fashion courtesy of a remarkable comeback that saw AFC Wimbledon overturn a shock 3-0 deficit with four goals in just 14 minutes. Eastleigh and FC Halifax will both be in the hat after Mikael Mandron's late equaliser in a six-goal thriller, while seventh-tier Stourbridge, the lowest-ranked team left in this year's competition, kept their hopes alive after a home clash with Northampton Town was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Brackley Town, Solihull Moors, Woking and Braintree Town all succumbed to superior opposition over the weekend, although Sutton United, famous conquerors of Coventry City in 1989, are on the prowl for another high-profile giant-killing after upsetting League Two Cheltenham Town thanks to a last-gasp winner from Roarie Deacon. Other eye-catching results included Cambridge United's emphatic humbling of Coventry City and 10-man Chesterfield's 5-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.
