American Music Awards 2013: Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake Among Top Winners [PHOTOS]
Taylor Swift scored a hat-trick at the 2013 American Music Awards that took place Sunday (24th November) in Los Angeles by winning Artist of the Year for the third time. Clearly she's got a super loyal fan-base, as is now evident by her victory in the fan-voted event. The country/pop starlet beat out fellow nominees Macklemore & Lewis, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake.
"My lucky number is 13, and so far you guys have made 2013 the most magical year so far," she said to her fans during her acceptance speech, as per a CBS News report. "I'm 23 and I have no idea what's going to happen to me...I love you so much. It's unbelievable."
That wasn't all. Swift also received the Favorite Country Album honor for "Red" as well as Favorite Female Country Artist.
Justin Timberlake bagged the Favorite Pop/Rock Male award. "These are voted on by the fans – everyone who took to their Twitter…and got busy, this means so much to me, thank you," he said. He later returned to the stage for two more awards: Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album.
Rihanna was awarded her seventh American Music Award, Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist. Later in the night, the first-ever AMA Icon Award also went to the R&B pop star.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the Favorite Rap/Hip-hop Album award.
One Direction scored two honors, Favorite Pop/Rock Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for "Take Me Home," the group's second album. It was the first time the UK boy band was nominated for an AMA.
It was also a big night for new star Ariana Grande, who not only performed in the early part of the show but also walked away with the Best New Artist honor.
A newly introduced award, Single of the Year, went to Florida Georgia Line and Nelly for their hit "Cruise".
