Amber Heard domestic violence arrest revealed as Johnny Depp divorce battle rages
As the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp divorce drama rages on, it is reported that the Magic Mike XXL actress was arrested for domestic violence against her girlfriend Tasya Van Ree in 2009.
According to law enforcement sources, and documents obtained by TMZ – after the Heard and Van Ree got into an exchange at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in 2009, Heard was taken into custody and booked for misdemeanour domestic violence against her partner.
Heard was granted a temporary restraining order on May 27 after alleging that Depp bruised the area around her right eye after throwing an iPhone at her face.
Celebrity gossip sites claims that, in 2009, Heard grabbed Ree's arm during a quarrel and appeared in court the following day. Although prosecutors did not pursue the case further, Heard was warned that a refiling could be considered within the two-year statute of limitation period.
The revelations come following reports that Heard entered into a 'domestic partnership' with Ree in 2008, and the pair considered themselves married.
Despite same-sex marriage not being made legal in the US until 2015, Heard took her partner's name in 2008 – after which she was legally known as Amber Van Ree. She changed her name back in 2013, when engaged to Depp. A source told the Mirror Heard and Van Ree later had a private ceremony in 2011 in New York, when same-sex marriage was legalised in the city.
Meanwhile Depp has yet to publicly address Heard's claims against him, however, his lawyer branded the allegations as nothing more than "false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life."
