Amber Heard files for divorce from Johnny Depp, seeks spousal support
After only 15 months of marriage, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp are heading for a divorce. The actress filed her divorce petition on 23 May citing irreconcilable differences.
According to TMZ which managed to get a copy of the petition, the 30-year-old actress is seeking spousal support from the Alice Through the Looking Glass actor. Depp, however, has petitioned the judge to reject her claim.
The couple married in February 2015 and according to one source, they opted not to get a pre-nuptial agreement. The split comes on the heels of another loss to Depp. The 52-year-old's mother Betty Sue Palmer passed away on 20 May following prolonged illness.
This is Depp's second marriage... and divorce, the first being to Lori Anne Allison. The couple split in 1985, after two years.
Heard and Depp first met while filming The Rum Diary in 2011. At the time, he was in a long-term relationship with French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis. The actor only confirmed his new romance after ending the 14-year commitment in 2012.
The last time the couple were in the news it was in April when they were made to film an apology video by an Australian court after Heard was found guilty of smuggling dogs into the country without the required paperwork.
