Andre Schurrle on Mesut Ozil: He can Play the Pass and He can Score
Chelsea midfielder Andre Schurrle believes compatriot and Arsenal star Mesut Ozil thrives and performs better when under pressure.
The Gunners travel to Stamford Bridge to face the Blues on Sunday in the Premier League and the German international [Schurrle] believes Ozil is a great player and given time, he will prove to everyone why he is rated so highly across the world.
"Mesut is a player who needs the pressure a little bit. He needs the pressure to perform," Schurrle told the Mirror.
"He is a great player. He is everything that you need in his position when he plays no.10. He can play the pass and he can score.
"So I think when you give him a little bit of time he will show you that he is a world class player. Of course, for the national team it is good to have Mesut Ozil in good form," the former Bayer Leverkusen player explained.
However, all the camaraderie is out of the window when the two World Cup winners face each other on Sunday at the Bridge.
"On Sunday, however, it would be good if he didn't have that good form against us!" the German midfielder hoped.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who can play at various positions, feels that the critics have been harsh with their views on Arsenal's club-record signing as he believes that a player like Ozil can play a good game even when he is out of form.
"We see each other often enough with the national team but even when he was not in good form he had good matches.
"He is always important for our team because he can play in every second a brilliant pass or score a goal. So I think the critics have been a little bit harsh on him. He is a brilliant player," Schurrle concluded.
