Android 7.1.1 update rolling out to Pixel, Pixel XL and Nexus devices
The update brings some new features including a new set of gender neutral emoticons.
Google has started rolling out a fresh new version of Android termed the 7.1.1 update for Pixel, Pixel XL and Nexus devices.
"Today we're rolling out Android 7.1.1, an update to Nougat that showcases more ways to express yourself, along with a handful of other sweet features and improvements to stability and performance. Android 7.1.1 brings many of the cool features of Pixel to everyone," reads a statement on the company's blog page.
The update is supposed to hit the Pixel and Pixel XL devices first followed by the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) models. The update will be an over-the-air one and will be available to all models that are able to download the beta version of Android 7.1on it.
The update brings some exciting features like a new set of emoticons, GIF keyboard and more. As Google puts it, the update looks to bring some of the Pixel and Pixel XL's features on board other devices through the update.
The company also highlighted its efforts to promote gender equality by launching the new set of emoticons saying: "We have included gender counterparts for emojis that previously only had male or female representation. Now there are female welders and men getting haircuts. "
The update adds support for "image keyboard" that lets users find and send pictures and GIFs without leaving their messaging app windows. This will, however, work only for Allo, Hangouts and the device's default messaging app.
