Overview
Murray progressed into the third round of the Madrid Masters after overcoming Nicolas Almagro on Wednesday after playing for nearly an hour and 47 minutes.
The Scot claimed a 6-1 victory in the first set but was handed a shock 1-6 reversal by the Spaniard. However, the 26-year-old kept his calm and eventually emerged triumphant 6-4 in the deciding set.
Meanwhile, Giraldo who came through the qualifiers managed to upset Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the other second round game on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Colombian ousted the World No 13 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, requiring less than 70 minutes.
Giraldo who first defeated former World No 1, Lleyton Hewitt in the first round will be keen to cause a huge upset to Murray's hopes of winning in Madrid for the second time in his career.
The winner of this clash will take on the winner between 78<sup>th ranked Lukasz Kubot and 45<sup>th ranked Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarterfinal on Thursday.

Murray holds a 2-0 lead over Giraldo in overall meetings. The pair have clashed once in a Grand Slam event where the British No 1 comfortably triumphed in straight sets.
