Overview
Andy Murray will look to continue his quest for a first Rome Masters title when he takes on Belgian David Goffin in the quarter-final on 13 May (Friday). The Scot, who will return to his world number two ranking following Roger Federer's shock loss to Dominic Thiem, has not had to sweat it out on the way to the quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old has been lucky at Rome with regards to the draw as he was placed in the bottom half, which meant he did not have to face Djokovic, Federer, Nadal or Nishikori during his campaign. A win here will mean that he either faces Juan Monaco or Lucas Pouille for a place in the final of the Rome Masters.
The world number 13, David Goffin comes into this clash after thrashing Tomas Berdych 6-0, 6-0 in the round of 16. The Belgian has had a good year so far, reaching the semi-finals of the Indian Wells and Miami Masters as well the round of 16 at the Australian Open.
The duo have never faced off in open clay but it is sure that Murray will be facing his toughest test in the form of Goffin at the Rome Masters.
