Overview
World number two Andy Murray will be looking for his ninth consecutive win when he takes on Gilles Simon in the semi-final on Saturday (15 October). The Scot comes into this clash after thrashing David Goffin 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters on Friday. Such has been Murray's dominance at Shanghai that he is yet to drop a set in the tournament.
The only concern for the Scot will be fatigue as he has played 72 games so far this season. Murray has looked tired at times and will need to ensure he is in optimum condition as he aims to close the ranking points gap on current leader Novak Djokovic.
The runner-up at the Shanghai Masters in 2014, Gilles Simon has played some of the best tennis of his career in Shanghai and has continued his form this year brushing aside mediocre results to make it to the semi-final.
The 31-year-old comes into this clash on the back of a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory but will know that he has a poor record against Murray winning just two out of the 16 times they have met in the past. It is unlikely that Simon will change that record considering the form Murray is in at the moment.
