Overview
Murray overcame a tough challenge from Fernando Verdasco in the second round on Wednesday, eventually winning 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 in a match that lasted two and a half hours. Murray cruised through the opening set but the Spaniard hit back in the second set and looked like he would cause an upset only for Murray to pull through in the end.
The 29-year-old, who has had a hectic last month, is currently on a 16-match winning streak and comes into this tournament on the back of wins in Beijing, Shanghai and Vienna. The Scot has won 72 matches this season, the most by a player and will look to continue his winning run as he aims to take the number one ranking from Novak Djokovic.
Pouille has had an outstanding 2016, a year which has seen his ranking rise from 91 in February to his current rank of 17. The French international who won his first ATP title in Metz this year comes into this clash full of confidence and would want to cause an upset, something which looks unlikely considering Murray has dominated the two times they have met in ATP history.
