Angie Stone arrested: Grammy-nominated singer charged after 'knocking daughter's teeth out'
R'n'b star Angie Stone has been arrested after allegedly attacking her daughter Diamond with a metal stand, knocking out her front teeth.
The Grammy-nominated singer was taken into police custody on Monday night (9 March) after officers were called to their home in DeKalb County, Georgia. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the No More Rain hitmaker struck her 30-year-old daughter after a fight broke out between the pair.
Diamond told police that their spat started after her mother complained that she didn't look after her children, who were running around the singer's Rogers Lake Road home half naked.
"Ms Diamond Stone then went on to state that Ms Angie Stone started [getting] in her face, telling her she needed to leave because she is tired [of] her," the police report said.
"Ms Diamond Stone then stated her and Ms Angie Stone started to argue, and that's when a physical altercation started to occur."
However, Stone's version of events is very different. The 53-year-old told police that she was defending herself after Diamond hit her in the face with closed fists and that she was unaware that she had hit her daughter with a metal stand until afterwards.
"Once she realised this," police said in the report, "she quickly put the stand down and attempted to get away from Ms Diamond Stone. Ms Angie Stone then stated while she tried to get away, Ms Diamond Stone continued to come after her as if to strike her again but stated that Ms Blondy Chisolm came to break up the fight."
Blondy Chisolm, a family friend who witnessed the altercation, told police she was not sure who threw the first blow.
Both women were taken to DeKalb County Police Department but Diamond was later released with no charges. Stone remained in jail after being charged with a felony count of aggravated domestic assault.
This is not the first time Stone, whose real name is Angela Brown, has found herself on the wrong side of the law. Back in March 2011, she was arrested on her way to church after being caught speeding and driving on a suspended license.
Stone most recently appeared with other singers on TV One's popular reality show, R&B Divas Atlanta, where fans were given an insight into her turbulent relationship with her daughter. They frequently argued on screen about a number of issues including Stone's boyfriend and Diamond's desire to have a singing career of her own.
