Another Period season 2, episode 1 synopsis: The Bellacourt sisters get tricked into sailing down the Niagara Falls
Comedy Central is back with comediennes Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome in the second season of Another Period. Episode 1 of the new season aired on 15 June and it takes us right back to the turn of the 20th century America and the story of the Bellacourts, and sisters Lillian (Leggero) and Beatrice (Lindhome) in particular.
Think Downton Abbey; add to that the reality TV style of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and throw in a bucket of crude humour and you get Another Period.
By the end of the last season, Lillian and Beatrice were banished from the Bellacourt house. We now find them roughing it out in a one-level home owned by a distressed townswoman (Lauren Lapkus) and her children.
Lillian's rejection from high society and Beatrice's affair with their senator brother (Jason Ritter) had earned them 15 minutes of notoriety but a couple of weeks later they are old news, replaced instead by Harriet Tubman (BeBe Drake) — American abolitionist, humanitarian, and an armed scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War.
The two sisters offer to pay deceptive Tubman with some of their "walking-around gold" in exchange for teaching them how to become notorious again.
Back at the manor, The Commodore (David Koechner) has come to realise that the only way he can solve his money problems is by getting his daughters back and convincing the Pope to grant them annulments from their gay husbands so that they can marry rich again.
Head butler Peepers (Michael Ian Black) has another task at hand – finding a replacement for Chair (Christina Hendricks) who played the saucy dominatrix maid in season 1. She is currently unconscious and having The Commodore's baby. Welcome Kermit The Baby!
Lillian and Beatrice finally find a way to get attention. Tubman advises them to float down Niagara Falls in a wooden tub/cask. But once they reach the banks below the Falls they realise they were tricked into the daredevil task so that Tubman could promote her new sturdy line of tubs.
Luckily Peepers is there to inform them that their father has forgiven them and wants them back home. Once back they learn that they are being granted annulments and are encouraged to date wealthy bachelors.
Another Period airs in the US every Wednesday at 10/9c on Comedy Central.
