Apple Unveils Two New Siri Versions Powered by Google AI Partnership

Apple is preparing a major overhaul of its digital assistant, Siri, with two new versions set to debut in 2026. The upgrades, powered by Google's Gemini AI models, mark a significant shift in Apple's approach to artificial intelligence and signal the company's renewed focus on creating a more capable and conversational assistant.

According to reporting by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the initiative comes after internal delays and strategic reshuffles within Apple's AI leadership. He noted that the company is seeking to stabilise Siri's performance and competitiveness in the AI assistant market by leveraging Google's advanced models rather than relying solely on in-house technology.

Siri 1.2 Trillion: The First Upgrade

As Gurman reported, the first version of the upgraded Siri will be introduced in iOS 26.4, scheduled to enter beta testing next month and roll out publicly by spring.

Internally dubbed Apple Foundation Models version 10, this iteration runs on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers and features around 1.2 trillion parameters, making it a substantial improvement over previous releases.

This initial version aims to improve Siri's performance across everyday tasks, allowing it to tap into on-screen content and personal data with greater accuracy. Users can expect faster responses and more reliable results, especially when asking the assistant to integrate information from different apps or complete complex commands.

While it represents a major technical leap, this version still relies on Apple's servers rather than full cloud integration.

Campos: A Fully Reimagined Siri

The second version, code-named Campos, is a complete reimagining of Siri, set to arrive in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. Campos has been designed from the ground up to function as a conversational AI capable of sustained, context-aware dialogue, much like ChatGPT or Google Gemini 3.

Unlike the first version, Campos is expected to utilise Google's cloud infrastructure, including high-powered tensor processing units (TPUs), to achieve faster, more accurate responses. This move reflects Apple's decision to partner with Google for AI capabilities, rather than relying solely on internal models.

Campos will not only understand context but also maintain coherent conversations across multiple interactions, allowing for a more natural and useful digital assistant experience.

Deep Integration Across Apple Apps

Both versions of Siri will be integrated more deeply across Apple's ecosystem, including apps such as Calendar, Health, Music, Podcasts, and Safari. This integration is part of a broader strategy to replace fragmented AI features with a unified, assistant-driven experience.

Users can expect Siri to proactively offer assistance, understand complex queries, and provide intelligent suggestions across multiple apps, rather than functioning solely as a reactive voice assistant.
