Ariel Winter defends glam outfit at Modern Family screening: 'Wear whatever you want, people!'

Nobody tells Ariel Winter what to wear! The Modern Family star has slammed critics who claimed she looked out of place in her glamorous attire for a recent screening of the season eight finale at the Wolf Theatre in Pasadena, California.

While the rest of cast opted for a smart-casual dress code for the event, the raven-haired star actress, who plays middle child Alex Dunphy, stood out in a gold beaded minidress with high neckline and cleavage-bearing cutout. She complemented the glitzy number with pointed gold stilettos and bronzy eye makeup.

It didn't take long for the Twittersphere to point out the contrast between Winter's look and that of her colleagues.

One person asked:" Why is Ariel Winter dressed that why?"

Another commenter said she "dressed for a very different red carpet than her Modern Family castmates".

The 19-year-old actress has since hit back in a scathing post on Instagram, telling haters that she had no time for their complaints.

"Why TF does anyone care that I didn't dress casual like everyone else for the panel? Why do I have to be like everyone else?" she told her 3.1 million followers.

"Why can't people just let other people feel good about themselves and do what they want? "

She concluded by urging fans to resist pressure to conform. "WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT PEOPLE! As long as you feel good about yourself that's what matters. I know I did. Don't ever let anyone stifle who you are and how your express yourself. Rant over."
