Arrow season 5: What is next in store for Oliver and Felicity? Stephen Amell shares plot details
Arrow season 4 ended with Oliver Queen putting an arrow through Damien Darhk and ending his reign of terror. The people of Star City came out to support the Green Vigilante, as Felicity and Curtis found a way to take care of the nuclear missile by making it explode mid-air.
Team Arrow won the fight against Darhk and they celebrated their win by taking some time off. Lance was officially fired, so he decided to skip town with Donna, Thea decided to quit the team to find herself while John Diggle re-enlisted in the army to take some time off from the City. Oliver was sworn in as the new mayor of Star City.
The episode ended with Oliver entering the Arrow cave, which is now in shambles, and being surprised to see Felicity there. "You thought I was leaving, too? Not a chance," she said. Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the plot for Arrow season 5. According to him, the show will go back to its basic element.
Amell said: "When we started Arrow, we were the superpower-less superhero show. Because of our success and because of opportunities that The CW has had, we've had to break away from that original modus operandi a little bit, because we were introducing Barry Allen, and in subsequent seasons, we've shepherded some of the Legends of Tomorrow onto their own show."
The actor addressed Supergirl's introduction and revealed the show will focus on the core elements of the show going into its fifth season. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 actor said: "Even though Supergirl is joining the ranks, there's no new person or new show to introduce this year, and I think as a result of that, we need to get back to focusing more on some of the core elements that used to define Arrow."
"To me, that's hand-to-hand combat, no superpowers, and dealing with the job of cleaning up Star City," he added.
Basically, Oliver and Felicity will be left with the job of cleaning up Star City. The CW has also released a teaser details for Arrow season 5, hinting at the return of some old faces. The network said: "Sinister players with a connection to Oliver's past will push the team to its breaking point, threatening everything Oliver's worked for and his legacy as the Green Arrow."
