Arsenal delay bidding for Borussia Monchengladbach's sought-after midfielder Granit Xhaka
Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka has revealed Arsenal are yet to make an offer for his services. The 23-year-old star is reportedly a long-time target of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, but Xhaka has confirmed the north London club are still to follow up their interest with a firm bid.
A transfer fee worth in the region of £30m ($43.3m) has been mentioned for Xhaka, but the Swiss international has confirmed nothing has been decided for the moment. "What happens is not entirely down to me. I can only say that I am really happy here, and my contract runs through to 2020," Xhaka said, according to Sport1. "Until today, no offer has been made."
Xhaka – who is also rumoured to have attracted interest from Manchester City – insisted he has not been thinking about a potential move this summer and would be happy to remain in Germany if the Arsenal transfer does not materialise. "To be honest, I didn't think about it in the past weeks. And I believe you could see that on the pitch," Xhaka said of Arsenal's reported interest.
"Should something come up, we'd possibly sit down and decide what happens. And if nothing comes up, everything fits here at Borussia."
Meanwhile, Wenger has come under intense pressure from Arsenal fans in recent weeks after their bid to win the Premier League subsided. A large number of supporters have called on the Arsenal boss to spend heavily this summer to restore them to the top of English football.
