Frustrated German Sensation Paves the Way for €45m Arsenal Switch

Reported Arsenal target Julian Draxler has vented his frustration after being forced to play out of his preferred position for Schalke this season, a development that will have alerted his biggest admirers.

The 20-year-old has been relentlessly linked with a number of European's biggest clubs having repeatedly announced his intention to one day achieve his "dream" of playing for one of the continent's elite, namely, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea and the Gunners.

And while a reported €45m release clause could prove to be a stumbling block, Draxler's dissatisfaction with life at the Vetlins Arena could accelerate his departure.

"I have now resigned myself to the fact that I am not welcome in the number 10 position here at Schalke," the playmaker told German magazine Kicker.

"I am still convinced to be as dangerous just outside the centre. Even though I perhaps am the only one who thinks this."

Bild report that Draxler has only completed two games in his favoured position out of 14 this season, appearing 11 times on the left wing and once on the right with Schalke manager Jens Keller preferring summer signing Kevin Prince-Boatang or Max Meyer, the 18-year-old many identify as Draxler's replacement, through the middle.

The prospect of the playmaker leaving the club was further reinforced by reports suggesting his club have secured the services of Germany international Sidnei Sam in time for next season. Should the Bayer Leverkusen winger agree to the move, Keller will be blessed with a further option in attack, possibly increasing the possibility of Draxler's departure.

Despite signing a new six year contract complete with a €45m release clause in the summer; Draxler has repeatedly spoken of the possibility of leaving Schalke. Last month the Germany international openly announced that Arsenal play the type of football he relishes, intensifying speculation that a move to north London could be on the cards.

"I've said every summer I have to look what is the best for me and I will do in the summer again and we will see what happens," Draxler was quoted as saying by the Telegraph late last month.

"I have always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal is of course one of them. Of course I sometimes speak to Mesut (Ozil) or Per (Mertesacker) about the team, about the club, and they always have good words and they tell me nice things.

"You never know what happens in the summer but Arsenal is a very, very nice team. They always have very young players, they play attractive football and that's what I like."
