Arsenal make surprise 3.7m bid for German defender Kevin Grosskreutz
Arsenal have reportedly placed a bid for Borussia Dortmund's Kevin Grosskreutz, with the club offering £3.7m for his signature.
Grosskreutz has 18 months left on his contract with the German side and while Liverpool have long been connected with a possible deal for the right-back the Gunners are believed to have decided to make a move while he continues to seek a move away from his current club.
Grosskreutz had publicly admitted he wanted a move away from Dortmund two years ago, but no acceptable bid came the club's way and as result he was forced to remain with the 2013 Champions League runners-up.
He declared his love for Arsenal some time ago and with Dortmund currently sitting near the bottom of the Bundesliga Grosskreutz is reportedly open to a move and pleased that the Gunners have come in for his signature.
The Metro claim that Arsene Wenger wants to add two more players to his squad list before deadline day comes to a close and Calciomercato report that Grosskreutz is a surprise target who is high on the manager's wishlist to bolster the defensive line-up.
Arsenal's defence has been criticized often in recent seasons and though Wenger begins every campaign claiming they will push for trophies, this time of year has brought the Gunners fighting to get back into the top four on multiple occasions now. As Wenger continues to shake off pressure to build on a side that continually suffers from injury woes, Grosskreutz could certainly benefit from joining a squad much in need of more strength in depth.
His flexibility across positions, with the 26 year old capable of playing across the right-back and midfield when needed, would certainly be a benefit for Wenger as Arsenal hope to sure up a Champions League place much earlier than the final day of the season.
