Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez investigated over €983,443 unpaid tax scandal
El Periodico reveals details of investigation over image rights payments.
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is under investigation over an alleged attempt to avoid tax payments on his image rights during his time at Barcelona, according to El Periodico. Spanish prosecutors have accused the Chile international of attempting to avoid paying a total of €983,443 (£886,233) during 2012 and 2013.
The Catalan-based publication reports Spanish prosecutor Miguel Angel Perez de Gregorio has claimed Sanchez failed to include the income generated by his image rights regarding his contract with Barcelona in his tax declaration of 2012 and 2013, ceding the rights to an off-shore company called 'Numidia Trading', located in Malta.
The prosecutors stated that the former Barcelona star avoided paying the Spanish revenue a total sum of €983,443 – €587,677 in 2012 and a further €395,766 a year later.
Sanchez moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2014 and has since been one of the most influential players at the Emirates Stadium.
El Periodico failed to clarify the kind of punishment Sanchez would face if he is found guilty.
