Arsenal, United and Liverpool Keep an Eye on their Targets During International Week
Arsenal and Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann made his dream debut for France in a 2-0 victory over Holland at the Stade de France.
The Real Sociedad attacking midfielder played at a good level and even had the opportunity to score a goal after being put through one-on-one, but his control went straight into the goalkeeper's hands. Karim Benzema and Blaise Matuidi scored the French goals.
Griezmann is one of the most coveted players in world football today and aside from Arsenal and United, a host of other clubs have shown interest in the 22-year-old including Real Madrid, PSG, Monaco and Juventus.
Real Madrid players Cristiano Ronaldo and Fabio Coentrao led Portugal to a 5-1 victory over Cameroon in their penultimate friendly before the World Cup in Brazil.
Ronaldo scored twice to help his team and became Portugal's all-time leading scorer – taking his international tally to 49, two more than the previous record set by Pedro Pauleta. Fabio Coentrao, the left-back long coveted by Manchester United, signed off a brilliant performance with a class goal.
Coentrao and another Manchester United target, Alex Song, almost staged a fight after the Portuguese made a bad tackle to the Barca midfielder, but their teammates intervened to stop them.
Song, who grew into a pivotal player for Arsenal during his seven campaigns, could be back Premier League this summer – this time on David Moyes' side.
Chile lost 1-0 to Germany in Stuttgart and even though could not repeat their 2-0 England at Wembley just three months ago, the European team had to sweat to keep them out.
Also United target Arturo Vidal was one of the main generators of Chile's game. The Juventus midfielder, who had two clear chances to score, create huge problems for Germany's defence. Despite having Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Mario Gotze in the line of attacking midfielders, the Germans did not feel comfortable and ended whistled by the fans despite the victory with a goal from Gotze.
Switzerland youngster Josip Drmic and Croatia veteran Ivica Olic both scored twice as their World Cup-bound countries drew 2-2. Olic scored a second goal after a corner kick from Liverpool and United target Ivan Rakitic.
Despite Sevilla president Pepe Castro revealing that the Croatian star is set to commit his future to the club, some Spanish reports claim that Liverpool's and United's hopes of signing the La Liga sensation are not completely finished, especially as Sevilla have accepted his condition to reduce his buy-out clause.
